Professionally Upcycled Staircase#

I had a fantastic oppertunity to upgrade an old wooden staircase. After conversing with a client about what they wanted. I spotted a staircase in Exeter. Specificly in the “White Stuff” store. These tiled staircases are a part of the companies design language and appear in most stores. have you spotted one?

I started by replacing the chipboard flooring with wooden flooring. I also added another joist to accomodate the new surface.

The new flooring needed hard wearing nosing. you can see this in the picture above.

I also used period appropriate screws in the floor to tie the design to the age of the building. I then added new skirting to the walls to finish the landings.

The steps were ruined where the glue stuck the carpet down. So they were rigerously sanded. the edges were restored usung a triangular sanding attachment on my multi tool.

Once all of the above was compleated, I Tiled the stairs. The stairs were finished in a textured finish. This isn’t somthing i reccomend. the finish can be hard to clean and hold dirt. I reccomend standard yacht varnish.
